Many dignified African women doing an undignified thing through economic necessity. One of the ongoing effects of settler colonialism. These women feel shame and humiliation every time, but they do it to survive. When they go home to their husbands, they feel the shame all over again, and the burden of not discussing the details. The unspoken becomes a looming shadow on their home lives.
